deCarta Partners With GlobeXplorer for Aerial & Satellite Imagery Capability

Through our new partnership, deCarta and GlobeXplorer customers will be able to easily create location-based applications that overlay spatial and complementary customer-generated data onto GlobeXplorer imagery. Applications can be developed through deCarta's no-cost Developer Zone, and commercially deployed through either deCarta's Hosted Web Services, a state-of-the-art, professionally managed hosting environment or by licensing and deploying deCarta's market-proven Drill Down Server(TM) geospatial software platform. deCarta and GlobeXplorer have collaborated on a seamless interface between deCarta's Web services API and GlobeXplorer's Image Server within the deCarta AJAX framework. This enables easy generation of "hybrid" maps such as the overlay of road network or parcel data on top of aerial and satellite imagery.

See the full press release here, and be sure to visit deCarta's Developer Zone for a free trial!

Podcast: GlobeXplorer and the Future of Imagery

Directions Magazine editor-in-chief, Joe Francica, spoke with Rob Shanks, president of GlobeXplorer, on the business model of Web services, the availability of specific products and the interest level that exists for purchasing Web services. Shanks also provides some interpretation of the results from Directions Magazine’s annual GIS Survey which asked respondents to express their interest in Web services as well as a perspective on some of the technological issues of satellite imagery such as higher spatial resolution and the launching of “microsatellites.” The 18 minute interview was recorded on September 13, 2006.

GlobeXplorer Lights Up ESRI's ArcWeb Program

The latest big news on our image web services is that GlobeXplorer is powering ESRI's ArcWeb Services program for developers, consumers, and businesses. Our first major customer, General Mills, signed up to create a consumer mapping application at Where's Yours.

In a recent article by Directions Magazine, Clare Kanter, the associate marketing manager for Nature Valley Granola Bars (part of General Mills) put the company's "Where's Your's" Web campaign in perspective. Nature Valley was looking for a way to spruce up its Web presence and partnered with ESRI to provide the mapping component. She said it was because ESRI could provide the high resolution imagery, which is in fact delivered by GlobeXplorer, that helped seal the deal.

You can see a basic ArcWeb Services viewer implementation with GlobeXplorer imagery in it here. Have fun!

Web 2.0 - GlobeXplorer's Web Map Services

Greetings to The Wall Street Journal's Tim Hanrahan and Jason Fry -

With regard to your recent article about Google Earth,

GlobeXplorer has six years of experience in online business-to-business e-commerce, selling API's, web services, and web applications to business customers in markets such as real estate, insurance, engineering, and telecom/utilities. GlobeXplorer operates as a business unit of the Stewart Real Estate Information group (NYSE:STC) and thus provides access to an immense library of real estate and land information. Our company has provided its subscription-based services to leading Internet portals such as those of ESRI, MapInfo, Mapquest.com, Maps.com, National Geographic, ADT, real-estate companies such as CoStar, Major MLS's, Grubb&Ellis, Stewart, Fidelity and First American, and U.S. Government agencies including the Environmental Protection Agency, the Census Bureau and the Lawrence Livermore National Lab. For all of these customers, an important part of the GlobeXplorer e-commerce offering is a robust metering system for tracking content. The system automates the billing process and pays royalties based on accurate and verifiable usage of each supplier’s content.

GlobeXplorer also operates its own consumer portal called ImageAtlas. We deliver millions of maps/images, and downloads/prints, every day at this site.

With over 600Tb of image and map data, and adding as much as 1Tb more each month, we deliver mostly commercial imagery data and ancillary map data layers that can be overlaid onto images (e.g. flood zones and parcels.) Most of our images are color 6-inch and sub-meter resolution from around the world, including some data at 3-inch resolution. Users can even click on a building and get every detail on it from our real estate databases.

We also provide full streaming 3D viewers which run in both web browsers and desktop clients. We provide high value data and business services, and we just thought you'd like to know!

PS - When we launched our first commercial product on September 12, 2000, the Wall Street Journal ran an exclusive story on GlobeXplorer. We were the featured, front page story in "Marketplace".

Best Regards,

Rob Shanks

GlobeXplorer Entering Search Wars?

At GlobeXplorer, we get a lot of questions regarding our role in all the recent activity surrounding consumer portals, search engines, and "local" mapping applications. Here's a good article written by Joe Francica of Directions Magazine.
